SUMMER HIKING for families
One of the biggest draws for our Alps is the HIKING on offer ! As ❄️ the snow continues to melt up high (it is taking a while this year!), and the 🚠 cable cars, bubble lifts and chairlifts re-open for the summer season, hiking at altitude becomes more accessible . . . (NB – on higher altitude walks, please do always check ❄️ snow cover before heading out, as winter leaves not just snow, but damage to paths!) [ NB – don’t forget suncream, sunglasses, sun hats, warm clothing, waterproofs, first-aid kit, maps, emergency equipment and mountain rescue phone numbers . . . / you may be hiking en famille with older, good walking children or perhaps heading out with walking toddlers or babies in baby carriers . . . ] for some inspiration for 🏔 family hikes au Pays du Mont-Blanc (both high and lower altitude), check out MBFF articles : Here are some ideas for short family hikes (NOT for buggies!):
  • 🏔 Chamonix Valley: see below in Mountain Refuge section / Les HouchesChalets et Alpage de Charousse;

Mountain refuges and buvettes

Some of the more accessible buvettes and refuges are already open, but others won’t open until they can clear the snow! Here are some suggestions, some very accessible with little ones, some a longer walk (and in some you can spend the night): [ and lots, lots more . . . see here for some more ideas for refuge overnights! ]
